DIRFloortime® Services at Puzzle Pieces, LLC

Floortime™ is a treatment method as well as a philosophy for interacting with children. The goal of this model is to build healthy foundations for social, emotional, and learning capacities rather than focusing on isolated skills and behaviors. Floortime™ involves meeting a child at their current developmental level, and building upon their particular set of strengths.  Floortime™ harnesses the power of a child’s motivation; following their lead, wooing them with warm but persistent attempts to engage their attention and tuning in to their interests and desires in interactions.

Through Floortime™, parents, child care providers, teachers and therapists help children climb the developmental ladder.  By entering into a child’s world, we can help them learn to relate in meaningful, spontaneous, flexible and warm ways.

At Puzzle Pieces, LLC a number of clinicians across disciplines have obtained additional certification as DIR® Floortime™ providers. This philosophy for interacting with children is embedded in our approach to intervention within all of our therapeutic services.

DIR® Floortime™ and the Family-Centered Model

Picture
Floortime™ goes hand in hand with the Puzzle Pieces, LLC family-centered model. Our certified Floortime™ therapists will work directly with your child to work on building foundational skills for learning and development in addition to providing you with a framework to create rich learning experiences within daily routines. Our Floortime™ therapists will tailor interventions based on the unique challenges and strengths of your child and family.

Basic Principals of DIR® Floortime™

Developmental
Understanding how the child is developing emotionally, socially, and cognitively. Learning more about how the child communicates and what they communicate about.
Individual
Understanding each child's particular pattern of challenges and tailoring interventions based on these differences, Exploring the child's unique sensory system, learning profile, and family environment is an important part of this process.
Relationship-Based
Understanding how the child's developmental challenges and individual differences affects relationships with others. Giving caregivers assistance in developing relationships with the child so they can help them learn and grow. Emotionally based interactions are at the core of this approach
